Ancora un’udienza del processo contro Pino Maniaci. Sono stati chiamati a testimoniare dalla difesa del giornalista, rappresentata dagli avvocati Antonio Ingroia e Bartolomeo Parrino, il carabiniere Liberti e il prof. Salvo Vitale. Liberti ha raccontato dei suoi rapporti con Maniaci, come componente della tutela che gli è stata assegnata sin dal 2008, soffermandosi sulla vicenda dei due cani uccisi, rispetto alla quale ha detto di essere intervenuto e di avere segnalato la vicenda alla caserma, senza che tuttavia fosse in quel momento intervenuto qualcuno per indagini. Intervennero invece i vigili urbani. Il PM Amelia Luise ha chiesto se era al corrente dello smaltimento dei resti dei due animali, ma il militare ha risposto di no. È stata la volta di Salvo Vitale che, interrogato da Ingroia ha raccontato della sua attività di giornalista, prima presso l’emittente Radio Aut di Peppino Impastato e successivamente, a partire dal 2000, presso Telejato. Vitale ha raccontato di essersi particolarmente occupato di beni sequestrati e confiscati alla mafia, portando avanti le denunce di una serie di “preposti” penalmente assolti, ma condannati dalle misure di prevenzione e ha rilevato che, dopo lo scoppio dell’operazione Kelevra l’emittente ha visto venir meno le visite delle scolaresche e le collaborazioni di ragazzi che venivano a fare scuola di antimafia e scuola di giornalismo. Ha precisato inoltre di non avere mai notato cambio di linea da parte di Maniaci rispetto al modo critico con cui venivano affrontate le questioni e i personaggi politici locali. Malgrado il tentativo, da parte del pm, di evitare che il filmato confezionato dall’arma dei carabinieri entrasse nel materiale processuale, è stato ammesso, su richiesta della difesa, un nuovo perito che si occuperà di visionare il cortometraggio e di rilevarne le anomalie. Dopo avere rinunciato alla testimonianza del tenente colonnello Cucchini, che aveva chiesto il pagamento delle spese di viaggio e di soggiorno, la difesa ha chiamato a testimoniare, alle prossime udienze – la prima delle quali si terrà il 28 gennaio 2020 – Silvana Saguto, già presidente delle misure di prevenzione, Cappellano Seminara, pluriamministratore giudiziario e il tenente colonnello della DIA Rosolino Nasca.
