Partinico, dibattito in Consiglio Comunale sull’intitolazione del Liceo Scientifico a Peppino e Felicia Impastato
La vicenda spiegata punto per punto
Il 19 aprile il Consiglio Comunale di Partinico è stato convocato con un corposo ordine del giorno. Tra i punti in discussione è stata inserita, all’ultimo minuto, una richiesta presentata dal vicesindaco Sergio Bonnì, a nome del suo gruppo Nuova Partinico, la quale, già nella sua formulazione, lascia adito a qualche perplessità: nella richiesta, inviata al Presidente del Consiglio, è scritto:
“Oggetto: Mozione dibattito intitolazione Liceo Scientifico Santi Savarino. Il sottoscritto Bonnì Sergio nella qualità di consigliere comunale di Partinico chiede alla S.V. di inserire nel prossimo Consiglio Comunale il punto specificato in oggetto”.
A ben notare si chiede di presentare una mozione che non c’è, della quale non c’è alcun testo da leggere e approvare. Si chiede altresì un dibattito sulla intitolazione del Liceo, ma non si specifica su quale intitolazione, dal momento che, come si legge, il Liceo è già intitolato.
Naturalmente ci sarebbero stati tutti gli elementi, da parte del Presidente, per non considerare la richiesta e rimandarla al mittente con l’invito a riformularla meglio ma forse il Presidente non si è reso conto delle anomalie, o forse non voleva creare problemi a un componente della maggioranza politica che lo ha eletto.
In realtà la questione parte da lontano e i vari passaggi possono leggersi in una lettera che lo scrivente nel 1984 inviò al Prefetto di Palermo:
“Quanto le scrivo è relativo a una questione che ormai si trascina da cinque anni, sull’intestazione da dare al Liceo Scientifico di Partinico. Il 31.10.1977 si tenne in questo istituto un Collegio dei docenti, preside Maria Santapà, che deliberò di intestare il Liceo al grande matematico Giuseppe Cipolla. Tale decisione, non si sa per quale ragione, forse perché il nome di costui richiamava un ortaggio dispregiato, ma sempre utilissimo, venne ignorata, ed alcuni mesi dopo, in data 1.9.1978, il Consiglio d’Istituto, preside Antonino Orlando, deliberò d’intestare il liceo a Santi Savarino, con la motivazione che trattavasi del solo cittadino di Partinico che aveva dato lustro al suo paese. La decisione venne ratificata dal Collegio dei Docenti in data 23.9.1978. Avanzai forti proteste contro questa decisione, esibendo una pagina, che le allego in fotocopia, in cui si accenna a rapporti tra il Savarino e i mafiosi Greco Salvatore e Ciccio Coppola, partinicese. Con tali riserve spedii anche una nota in Provveditorato, che le allego. Il problema venne messo all’odg in un Collegio dei docenti in data 19.02.1979 e, in mia assenza, prorogato a data mai più fissata. A quanto pare tali riserve non sono state prese in opportuna considerazione, e, per quanto mi consta, la pratica dovrebbe adesso essere nelle sue mani. Chi le scrive ha rischiato molte volte, prima assieme al povero Giuseppe Impastato, poi in prima persona, nella lotta contro la mafia e non riesce a tollerare che il posto in cui presta servizio possa essere intitolato a un personaggio così equivoco, in combutta con i peggiori elementi che hanno disonorato la Sicilia. Peraltro, anche da un aspetto educativo, nel momento in cui la Legge Reg. 51 ha fatto della scuola un terreno privilegiato per creare una coscienza civica non mafiosa, non ritengo tale scelta molto seria e dignitosa nei confronti dei ragazzi, del paese e di quelle istituzioni che sono chiamate ad operare per una società più pulita. Pertanto, nel pregarla di un suo urgente intervento e nel riservarmi anche di fare presentare un’interpellanza parlamentare sull’argomento, le invio, ove ce ne fosse bisogno, la fotocopia della lettera da me a suo tempo spedita al Provveditore agli studi e la fotocopia degli atti della Commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta sulla mafia, in cui si parla dell’individuo in questione in termini chiarissimi e, senza dubbio, poco esaltanti.

Malgrado le rimostranze dello scrivente, che riteneva altamente diseducativo intestare una scuola a un personaggio del genere, la richiesta venne trasmessa in Provveditorato e, dopo alcuni anni, arrivò il decreto con cui il giornalista Savarino, scavalcava Giuseppe Garibaldi e il ben più qualificato matematico Cipolla.
Il Liceo Scientifico era nato come sezione staccata dello storico Liceo Classico, ma, nello spazio di pochi anni lo aveva superato, per numero di iscritti, al punto che il Liceo Classico, con annessa sezione Scientifica diventava Liceo Scientifico con annessa sezione classica. Sarebbe stato consequenziale che il nome del “padre”, cioè di Garibaldi, fosse stato dato anche al figlio, cioè allo Scientifico, ma così non è stato.
A distanza di 45 anni si è prospettato un altro scavalcamento: una decisione degli organi collegiali del Liceo ha proposto un cambio d’intitolazione, tenuto conto che i trascorsi di Santi Savarino erano poco in linea con gli obiettivi educativi di ogni istituzione scolastica: gli studenti, dai quali è partita l’iniziativa, contestavano a Santi Savarino di essere stato uno dei firmatari e uno dei maggiori difensori delle leggi razziste promulgate da Mussolini, i docenti si soffermavano sul carteggio che l’ex senatore aveva avuto con il boss Frank Coppola, annoverato, secondo gli atti della Commissione Antimafia, tra i promotori e i fautori della sua elezione al Senato nelle liste della D.C., prima del cambio di bandiera che lo portò alla successiva candidatura nell’M.S.I. del fascista Almirante, dove non venne rieletto.
La proposta è stata quella di unire in un’unica soluzione i nomi di Peppino Impastato e di sua madre Felicia Bartolotta, il primo come fulgida espressione della lotta contro la mafia, in nome di una società senza diseguaglianze, la seconda come indicazione di scelta della legalità, attraverso la lotta per avere giustizia per il figlio. Va detto che questa è la scuola frequentata da Peppino Impastato nei suoi cinque anni di studi liceali. Le tre Commissarie governative che reggevano il Comune, sciolto per infiltrazioni mafiose, hanno dato parere favorevole alla richiesta della Sovrintendenza Regionale Scolastica, che ha chiesto l’ultimo parere al Prefetto.
A questo punto è successa una sorta di ribellione popolare: la destra paesana, che ha successivamente vinto le elezioni e che quindi amministra il Comune con una stragrande maggioranza, con un solo consigliere del PD all’opposizione, ha levato in alto gli scudi e ha dato vita, per iniziativa di Sergio Bonnì, oggi vicesindaco, un comitato Pro-Savarino che, nel giro di un mese ha raccolto circa 300 adesioni. La proposta è quella di non sostituire con un comunista antimafioso, come Impastato, un razzista, filofascista e filomafioso, come Savarino che, con tutti i suoi difetti era comunque un partinicese che ha portato alto il nome della sua città e ha regalato la sua biblioteca al Comune. Su Felicia Bartolotta non sono state sollevate obiezioni, ma è chiaro che il suo nome è legato a quello del figlio. Si resta in attesa degli esiti del Consiglio Comunale che potrebbe deliberare di annullare la delibera di parere favorevole delle Commissarie. Tra parentesi questa delibera, votata con motivazioni d’urgenza, è rimasta misteriosamente congelata per alcuni mesi nei cassetti del Comune ed è stata ripescata solo dopo un intervento del consigliere comunale d’opposizione.
Altro particolare: la via in cui ha sede l’attuale Liceo Scientifico è intestata a Peppino Impastato, ma la delibera rimase per tre anni nei cassetti prima che, grazie a un mio intervento, diventasse esecutiva. Chissà che in futuro non si decida di annullare anche il nome di questa strada e di intestarla a Frank Coppola!
