Buona parte della cattedrale di Notre Dame è andata in fumo. Come sia successo nessuno lo sa. Per fortuna non ci sono state vittime, ma una parte della storia d’Europa è bruciata con i suoi preziosi reperti, monumenti, opere d’arte, testimonianze. È un danno che colpisce noi tutti. Per i Francesi in particolare è come se, per noi, fosse andata in fumo la basilica di San Pietro a Roma, ovvero la chiesa della cristianità, ma il problema va ben oltre la religione. Naturalmente tutta una serie di cronisti, in parte improvvisati, ne hanno sparato di tutti i colori, abbiamo sentito esperti che non lo erano e altri che, pur di dire qualcosa sparavano banalità mostruose. Certe caratteristiche attribuite a Notre Dame, appartengono a San Pietro, sia per il numero dei visitatori, sia per l’importanza storica del monumento, ma non è il momento di rivendicare primati, bensì di rimboccarsi le maniche, ricostruire e prevedere le condizioni affinché eventi del genere non possano ripetersi.
Il restauro della cattedrale di Notre-Dame de Paris “durerà mesi e anni”, ha detto il ministro francese della Cultura, Franck Riester, spiegando che è ancora “troppo presto” per valutare la durata precisa della ristrutturazione. “In ogni caso – ha detto ai microfoni di France Info – ci vorrà tanto tempo e bilanci molto importanti”. Riester ha precisato che “i due terzi del tetto sono andati in fumo” e che la “guglia è crollata all’interno della cattedrale, creando un buco nella volta”, anche “una parte delle vetrate” è andata “distrutta”.
